STRINGER STYLES
The stringer is the main structual support of your staircase and runs down both side of it. The most commonly used style for the stringer is a straight solid piece that encapsulates all of the treads and risers, this is called a 'Closed Stringer' style. If you are looking for a more striking stringer style, then the 'Open & Cut Stringer' is a great option. The 'Open & Cut Stringer' allows you to see through onto the treads, and add some attractive details to the stringer in the form of beading and an optional shaped bracketing. RISER STYLES
The riser is the material in-between each tread on your staircase. On a typical staircase, the riser is made out of ply and is faced with a corresponding timber to the rest of the staircase, filling the entire gap between each tread, this is called a 'Full Riser'. If you are looking for a more open looking staircase to bring light into your room or hallway then a 'Half Riser' is a great option for you. A 'Half Riser' only fills half of the riser gap. This can be timber, steel or something of your choice as long as the gap is no greater than building regulations allow. The riser can be shaped to add more detail and interest to your staircase, or it can remain straight depending on preferance. Another option is to replace the riser with a chrome rod for a more modern look to your staircase (tread rise limitations may apply). Click on the images below for some examples.
BULLNOSE & CURTAIL TREAD'S
The 'Bullnose' & 'Curtail' tread details are used to add a more welcoming and grander feel to your stiarcase. The 'Bullnose' is the most common tread detailing used on staircases beacuse it doesn't take up any extra room outside the existing dimentions of your staircase. The curtail on the other hand, will increase the staircase footprint in a hallway or landing. The extra space required is dependant on how many curtail stages are required and the 'Tread Going' measurement (although this can be adjusted to suit). Click on the images below for some examples.
